We Trusted INEC’s Promise of a Free and Fair Election, But They Let Us Down- Kingsley Moghalu
Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu OON, a Nigerian political economist, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to keep its promise.
According to Moghalu, INEC assured the public that the election would be free and fair, but it has once again disappointed them. He added that people turned out in large numbers to vote, but the system failed them in many polling units.
Moghalu made this statement in response to the violence in certain states during the election and the delay in uploading results by INEC.
He expressed his disappointment in INEC on his verified Twitter handle, stating that it was a “tactical disenfranchisement” and that the police were colluding with thugs. He further highlighted that the delayed uploading of results to BVAS could be attributed to operational incapacity or the human factor, but the result was the same.
Moghalu also acknowledged the enthusiasm of the people but noted that the system failed them in too many polling units due to delayed arrivals of INEC officials, violence in certain states, and delayed uploading of results. He anticipates that Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANS) will be on parade ahead.
