Hijacked Truck and Trailers Found on South African-to-Zimbabwe Route

The extent of illegal activity occurring along our borders is pretty depressing, and it demonstrates how porous our border communities have grown. Today, criminals freely violate our borders and conduct smuggling operations there.

Since a while ago, there have been several reports of illegal cigarettes being brought into South Africa from our neighbors, particularly Zimbabwe. The government and other organizations must make a concerted effort to address the problem of smuggling along our borders before things truly get out of hand.

According to a recent report, the South African Police Service has successfully cracked down on those smuggling stolen vehicles into Zimbabwe from South Africa.

The event involving the theft of a truck and two trailers from a trucking company’s property was reported to the MTRS tracking team. As the car reached Polokwane, they turned on the tracker. The MTRS crew pursued the stolen cars and quickly caught up with the hijackers, managed to halt the car, and apprehended the culprits.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect was transporting the stolen truck and trailers to Zimbabwe, where they were already in negotiations with a bidder to buy them.
