Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described as untrue the claim by the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in the state, Dr Abiye Sekibo, that he (Wike) sponsored an assassination attempt on him.

The governor declared that he had never sponsored assassins against anybody.

Wike spoke at the Rivers East Senatorial District rally of the PDP that held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Saturday.

He said, “Let me use the opportunity to debunk an allegation that some persons may have made that one Abiye Sekibo said that I sponsored assassination; attempted assassination on his life.

I want to state categorically clear, all of us from Rivers State know who is who. We know who has killed so many people in this state.”

He also denied the allegation of burning the venue approved by his administration for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council to hold its presidential campaign rally.

Wike said, “So, we granted approval for the candidate (presidential) of the party to hold their rally at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. I do know that if you go there today, no stadium has been burnt.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has expressed concern over the challenges being experienced by the citizens in getting cash from their bank accounts and other alternative channels.

The Director, Corporate Communications Department in the bank, Mr Osita Nwanisobi stated this during the CBN Special Day at the ongoing 44th Kaduna International Trade Fair, on Saturday in Kaduna.

Represented by Mohammed Abbah, Director, Capacity Development in the bank, Nwanisobi said the advantages of the currency redesign were overwhelmingly enormous and would benefit the economy in the long run.

Indeed, there have been reports of occasional transaction failures, we wish to assure you that the Nigerian payment system infrastructure is robust enough to handle the surging transaction volumes across all channels.

We, therefore, urge Nigerians to embrace alternative payment channels, such as eNaira and internet banking as we embrace the cashless policy,” he said

Nwanisobi said the policy was not targeted at anyone or any group of persons rather aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s macroeconomic fundamentals and better our socio-economic conditions.

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu was conspicuously absent as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, visited Umuahia Saturday for a rally.

The Governor’s absence, was however not surprising considering his loyalty to the Gov. Nyesom Wike-led G-5 Governors of the PDP currently at loggerheads with Atiku over power balancing in the PDP National leadership.

Meanwhile, Umuahia Township Stadium, venue of the presidential rally was filled to its capacity as members and supporters of the party mobilized from all parts of the state.Addressing the mammoth crowd at the rally, Atiku promised to give recognition to Ndigbo if elected into power.

He pledged $10 billion business support fund to boost businesses and economic activities in the state.

The former Vice President further promised actualise the proposed Abia Dry port, and rehabilitate federal roads in the state.

He urged Abians to vote for the PDP at the forthcoming polls, saying that while PDP was in power Nigerians were evenly treated contrary to marginalisation and discrimination being witnessed currently.
