Tinubu Didn’t Just Wake Up To Say ‘It’s My Turn’ – Wife

Wife of presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said her husband is not driven by overambition to contest for the 2023 presidency.

According to her, for the past 20 years, Tinunu has not contested any election since 2003, and as such he did not just wake up and say “it is my turn”. 

Speaking at the pre-election strategic meeting of APC zonal, state and local government women leaders in Abuja on Friday, Senator Remi said Tinubu was only trying to reap what he had sown over the years.

She said her husband is eminently qualified to administer the country effectively insisting that he remains the most acceptable candidate for the position.

She stated: “My husband, (Tinubu), had not contested election since 2003. This year, it will be 20 years; so he did not just wake up and say it is my turn. You can serve other people for 20 years and make sure they excel.

Illegal detention: Ex-aide sues Aisha Buhari for N100m

A former Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the First Lady, Zainab Kassim has filed a suit for the enforcement of her fundamental rights against the President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, while demanding N100m as damages from her and other respondents.

The other respondents in the case are the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services.

Kassim claimed that some Department of State Service officers acting on the orders of Aisha allegedly abducted her and took her to the Presidential Villa where she was severely assaulted, dehumanised and abused by the first lady with the support of officers of the DSS and Police for deleting her posts on social media.

3 banks destroyed, property looted in Rivers’ riot

Hoodlums on Friday hijacked a protest against cash scarcity to destroy three banks and loot property at the old Port Harcourt Township, and Obio-Akpor in Rivers State.

The angry youths vandalised the First Bank in Churchill and Keystone Bank along Aggrey Road in the old Port Harcourt Township.

It was gathered that customers on Thursday attacked the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) at Rumuokoro in Obio/Akpor forcing the institution to close down on Friday.

Customers were said to have stormed the First Bank and Keystone Bank in the town axis, but later started a protest that was hijacked by hoodlums from the waterfronts.

Soldiers kill seven bandits in Kaduna

Troops of the Nigerian Army and the Navy have killed seven bandits during clearance operations in the Kasso general area of Chikun Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this on Friday, said the troops made contact with bandits around Ungwan Rimi village in Kasso, near a river, engaged and subdued after a fierce battle.

According to him, after the fierce battle, seven of the bandits were confirmed killed, adding that there was a high possibility of bandits eliminated or injured.

According to Aruwan, items recovered by the troops included five motorcycles, 153 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines and three mobile phones.

While receiving the report, Governor Nasir El-Rufai praised the troops for their doggedness and bravery.

WAEC releases 2022 WASSCE 2nd series results

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria, has announced the release of 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, second series for private candidates.

Recall that WASSCE 2022 second series for private candidates was conducted in Nigeria between Monday, October 31 and Thursday, December 15, with three thousand, three hundred and ninety-three. 3,393 examiners involved in the coordination and marking exercise, across seven traditional marking venues, and one e-marking centres across the country. 

In a statement by the Head of National Office, WAEC Yaba, Mr. Patrick Areghan, and issued by the public affairs department, the body in a breakdown of the results, noted that out of a total of seventy-three thousand, four hundred and twent-four , 73,424, candidates that sat for the examination, a total of seventy-two thousand, two hundred and sixty, 72,265, representing 98.42 percent have their results fully processed and released.

PRP calls for Emefiele’s sack or resignation

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called for resignation of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele for making Nigerians suffer.

This was part of a statement by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in Abuja on Friday, which also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Emefiele, should he fail to honourably resign.

The Falalu Bello-led party lamented the hardship already inflicted on the masses, which it described in the Hausa termed Talakawa, by the new monetary policy of the CBN, around old and new naira notes swap and the mainstreaming of the cashless system.

According to the statement, PRP has also threatened to sue the CBN and come commercial banks for denying it access to its funds, as a registered political party, through an order of the apex bank, which restricted over-the-counter cash withdrawal to N20,000. 

It said it would be seeking punitive damages against the CBN for enforcing an illegal order for acting outside its guiding rules.
